Computer Technology is the use and study of Computers, Networks, Computer languages and Databases within an organization to solve real problems. The program prepares students for application programming, Networking, Systems administration, Servicing and Repairing of computers and PDAs and internet development.

Computer Technology careers allow students or trainees to assemble pre-existing components or create something that has never been seen before. There is a high demand for Computer Technology graduates all over the country in all segments of the economy. Careers in Computer Technology pay higher than average salaries. It is very interactive career to work in and it also provides a lot of work variety. In this major, students learn about the theory, organization and process of information collection, transmission and utilization through computers. Students learn how to analyze user needs and how to plan, design, develop, implement and manage network.

COURSE OUTLINE AND DURATION

Computer Technology is a three year course. Within the program, we have three main electives areas

  • Electronics and Computer Hardware
  • Computer System and Networking
  • Practical / Project Work

INDUSTRIAL ATTACHMENT

Students or Trainees in the computer Technology department are given attachment letters to companies during long vacation to enhance their practical skills.

CERTIFICATION

After completion of the program students are given a certificate by the Technical Examination Unit for the electives and National Board for Professional and Technician Examinations (NABPTEX) also issue core Certificate

PROGRESSION

Graduate who complete Computer Technology Training, successfully can proceed or further to any tertiary institution across the country to do IT/ICT.

PROSPECTS

The trainees can get employment in any companies, banks as IT Technician or can set up their own IT business services that will earn them money.

Computer Technology students are usually enthusiastic about new technology. They are curious and creative, patient and responsible. They enjoy assisting in the application and creation of new technology, and have the ability to work both independently and in a group setting.
