Architectural Drafting Department is one of the 16 elective departments at Accra Technical Training Centre.

The department has been positioned to provide skills and knowledge to its trainees with the view to offering them the chance to acquire valuable technical and vocational skills that will open up a wide range of opportunities for productive work. It came into being more than two decades ago initially as part-time program and it was about eleven (11) years ago that the morning session was added.

The department has also produced Architectural Drafting Technicians equipped with the relevant and quality skill training and knowledge in drafting in order to bridge the skills gap so as to solve the graduate unemployment and ultimately ensuring national development and industrialization through TVET.

In future, the department intends producing students who are well equipped   in the use of CADD for Architectural drafting and who can best fit into the world of work.

CURRICULUM

The department runs both elective and core programs over a duration of 8 terms at the end of which certificate II examination is conducted.

Elective subjects: Architectural Principles and Drafting, Construction and Technical Drawing with the Technical Examination Unit (TEU) being the examining body.

Core subjects: English language, Mathematics, Social Studies and Integrated Science- National Board for Professional and Technician Examination (NABPTEX) awarding the certificate. Other core subjects not examinable are the ICT and Entrepreneurship

ACADEMIC PROGRESSION

Successful trainees pursue Construction Technician Courses (CTC) or HND in Construction Technology and or HND in Civil Engineering but not in drafting.

 

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

After the completion of the program (Certificate II) some students are employed in Architectural Firms, Industries, and Government Agencies whilst others join the Security Services.

 

OTHER PROGRAMS

The department as well runs evening programs for Construction Technician Certificates (CTC) I, II and, III. Each level takes a duration of 9 months to complete beginning September to June each year with the TEU awarding the final certificates.

 

Program Details

  • CTCI : Building Estimation , Construction Practice, Building Science, Building Materials and Surveying
  • CTCII: Administration ,Construction, Measurements, Structures and Site Surveying
  • CTCIII: Construction, Measurements, Site Surveying, and Applied Technology

Those in CTC1 write one project that covers all the courses learned and the CTC IIIs write projects on Surveying, Measurements and Construction
